We were out at Snow Summit in Bear Bear on Sun August 5th volunteering for the 1st Annual Mountaintop Rally MTB Time Trial put on by the Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation. The event was put on to raise money for trails development in the Big Bear area. Along with the Time Trial they also had a Vertical Mile Run up Snow Summit, a mountain bike ride hosted by Girls Gone Riding and a Mountain Hike hosted by the Sierra Club. The Time Trial was a 13 mile run on Skyline Trail. It started at the top of the chairlift with 2 rides on the chairlift included with entry, and headed west on Skyline Trail back around to Snow Summit Resort. The event had a small turnout for this first time event, but everybody had a great time and also included with your entry was lunch at the 2 eateries at Snow Summit. The event was run By Bennett Rossell of Trails Foundation and Tom Speigel of Team Big Bear and was very well run and organized. I look forward to watching this event grow in the future as it is another worthwhile event to attend.
The Trails Foundation is Big Bear’s non-motorized trail advocacy group. As a volunteer driven organization, we work behind the scenes to develop new trail opportunities, build and maintain our local trails, and educate the public on the diverse and amazing trails surrounding the Big Bear Valley.
